Quintet re-sign with Tigers

Leicester Tigers have confirmed that the talented quintet of Greg Bateman, Mike Williams, Telusa Veainu, Matt Toomua & Dan Cole have all committed their futures to the club.

Zimbabwe-born Williams has agreed to new contract terms to remain at Welford Road beyond the end of the current season. He joined Tigers in the summer of 2015 and was named in the England Elite Player Squad for 2016/17, joining the training squad in the Six Nations period.

Australia international centre Matt Toomua has agreed on a contract extension to stay with Leicester Tigers up to 2020. Toomua moved to the East Midlands during the opening weeks of the 2016/17 season but suffered a knee injury in the European Champions Cup victory over Racing at Welford Road just two games into his Tigers career.

Tonga international Veainu has been in eye-catching form this season, scoring five tries in eight appearances for Tigers, in his third year with the club.

The Tigers academy graduate, Cole made his senior debut for his hometown club in October 2007 and has made 185 appearances in the front row as well as playing in 75 Tests for England and gaining selection on two tours with the British & Irish Lions.

The 28-year-old Bateman, who created a piece of Tigers history in 2016/17 by playing in all three front-row positions during the season, is approaching 50 first-team appearances for the club since his arrival from Exeter Chiefs in the summer of 2015.
