Ross Ford out of Scotland's autumn series with injury

Scotland and Edinburgh hooker Ross Ford has been ruled out for four months with a pectoral injury.

Ford picked up the injury during training last week and a scan revealed the 33-year-old will need surgery that will rule him out until the run-up to the Six Nations.

Uncapped Edinburgh team-mate Neil Cochrane is one of three players who've been added to Scotland coach Gregor Townsend's squad as a replacement for Ford.

Joining Cochrane is Magnus Bradbury and Rory Sutherland in training with the national squad at Oriam.

Scotland take on Samoa on Saturday at Murrayfield to open their autumn Test campaign and then welcome New Zealand and Australia on November 18 and 25 respectively.
