Ryan McCauley commits to Waratahs until the end of 2020

Promising young lock Ryan McCauley will continue his career in NSW after committing to the Waratahs until the end of 2020, the club has confirmed.

The 20-year-old Eastern Suburbs second rower came on as a replacement in last week’s 41-12 win against the Highlanders in only his second Super Rugby match after making his debut against the Western Force in 2017.

Waratahs Assistant Coach (Forwards) Simon Cron said McCauley represents the next generation of forwards for the franchise.

“Ryan is a very astute lock who does a lot of work off the field around his and the team’s preparation. He is continuing to develop his work-rate around the field, which helps complement his set-piece strengths,” said Cron, who coached McCauley in the Junior Wallabies’ side last year.

“He is still only 20 years of age and as a tight forward he will only continue to get better.”

McCauley added: “I like playing for NSW, this is my home State and I love the environment and am enjoying my time here.”
