Sale Secure Penalty Try Victory

A penalty try in the dying minutes of the game was what gave the Sale Sharks an 18-16 victory. This also meant that this was the first victory of the Premiership Cup campaign. It was Sale's second half performance led by Rob Webber that gave them the slimmest of chances. Robert du Preez's boot also proved quite useful tonight.

Jonny Leota rounds up the pick of the Top Performers tonight

Rob Webber - Sale Sharks

Capped 16 times, the English International proved to be a nuisance come ruck time, slowing down the opposition’s ball and doing a good job in the set pieces. His try off a well rolled maul gave his side the necessary boost in confidence in the 18th minute as Sale led 8-0.

Robert du Preez - Sale Sharks

These might not have been the ideal conditions for the South African to make his debut, but nonetheless he did not fail to show his pedigree and why he was called in as an emergency short loan player. His ability to control the game in tough conditions will give him the upper hand for his stay in the Northern Hemisphere. He showed some of his flair by spotting gaps in defence causing headaches for the opposition.

Johnny Leota - Sale Sharks

While his side might have missed several players due to international duty Leota made sure he sent out a clear message to the Somoan national coach as he was left out of the Winter Test Series. His sheer strength proved to be the key to breaking through a solid Leicester Tiger's defence. This allowed Sale to have good front foot ball and put them in good attacking positions.
