Sale Sharks v Toulon - Top Performers
Toulon secured their first win in this season's Champions Cup tonight defeating Sale Sharks 15-5 away from home. The three time european champions left a lot to be desired in their performance scoring no points in the second half and looking like the 2nd best time for large periods of the game. Sale fought hard for 80 mins and maybe their lack of accuracy from the boot is what let them down alongside a damaging yellow card very early in the first half.
On the flip side we look at the best individual performances from a quiet game to kick off the weekend.
Paolo Odogwu
The England U20 winger was electric tonight for the Sharks tonight against the European heavyweights Toulon. Odogwu showed serious pace to run in Sale's first try and left the Toulon defence for dead. He provided an attacking threat all night for the Premiership side and is definitely one to watch for the future.
Mamuka Gorgodze
In what was an exceptionally boring game there wasn't many stand outs with man of the match Mamuka Gorgodze adding "I don't think I'm the man of the match, I thought I had a poor game tonight."
The big second row had some big carries and did his best to inject some life into a flat Toulon performance. The Georgian international put in some big tackles which helped Toulon keep out Sale in the second half.
Duane Vermeulen
Despite getting a yellow card the South African had a number of turnovers making Sale work hard when it came to the rucks. Vermeulen led from the front and provided the fans with an impressive physical display.
