Samoan pair cited while Amosa's World Cup is over

Samoa could be without three of their star men ahead of their second Rugby World Cup match against Scotland on Monday, 30 September.

Samoa number eight Afaesetiti Amosa has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup with a knee injury while centre Rey Lee-Lo and hooker Motu Matu’u have been cited.

World Rugby have confirmed that both deserved red cards for their high tackles as they released a disciplinary updated revealing that both players have been cited for their respective tackles, which were deemed “acts of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous high tackle).”

Winger Ed Fidow has also received a warning for throwing a punch during the match.

Meanwhile, Amosa World Cup is over after he was injured in a high tackle while scoring a try in Samoa's 34-9 victory over Russia.

Manu Samoa coach Steve Jackson has expressed his sympathy for the hard-running number eight.

Jackson said he has been an outstanding member of the team and he will be missed.

"We are absolutely gutted for him. He is upbeat - but we just need to do what's best for Afa."

Amosa injured his right knee in the act of scoring, just after halftime, in Manu Samoa's 34-9 victory over Russia on Tuesday night.

The coaching group is considering its options on who will be called up to join the Manu Samoa Rugby World Cup 2019 campaign.
