Saturday’s Champions Cup Top Performers

Saturday’s Champions Cup Top Performers:

With six Champions Cup games played today, we can say that there were a few players that we had to consider for this evening’s article but of course not everyone could make it.

Here is our selection for today’s top performers:

Josh van der Flier (Leinster)

The Irish flanker was extremely influential in a game that saw his side dominate Northampton pretty much from the first whistle. The No. 7, who was named man of the match, put in a massive shift of defence, as he managed to make 19 tackles and win three turnovers.

Vincent Rattez (La Rochelle)

The winger might have been on the losing side today but boy he managed to grab the man of the match award with his numbers. Rattez strangely did not score any points this evening, but he did put in quite an attacking display. The No. 14 made 104 metres, beat six defenders, had four clean breaks and managed two offloads in the match.

John Cooney (Ulster)

The Ireland international was probably the best player of the day and these stats will tell you why we think so! Not only did the No. 9 kick the winning penalty which saw his side win by one point, but he had 100% success rate with the boot and never missed a tackle all evening.

Stuart McCloskey (Ulster)

The 27-year-old scored made 88 metres with the ball in hand, had two clean breaks, beat four defenders and also scored a crucial try in his one point win against Harlequins. On defence, the inside centre made 83% of his tackles and won three turnovers.

CJ Stander (Munster)

In game which saw a lot of rain and made playing conditions very difficult, South African born CJ Stander put in a massive shift. The 29-year-old had 19 carries and managed to make 25 metres on attack, while on defence he put in 17 tackles and only missed one.
