Shane McDermott calls time on First Class Referee Career

After 12 years refereeing first-class rugby games, Shane McDermott willblow his final whistle this Sunday at the North Harbour v Taranaki 2017 Mitre 10 Cup.

McDermott made his international debut in 2014 controlling the New Zealand Schools v Australia Schools test match in Porirua.  His final game will bring the curtain down on a stellar 1^st class career including over 80 first class matches.

“It has been a privilege to represent both Southland and the Bay of Plenty as a member of the national refereeing panel for the last 12 years," he commented.

"Being able to stay in the game at the highest level after I retired from playing, has created so many opportunities to be a part of many great games..."

McDermott will still remain involved in Bay of Plenty club rugby where he is three games away from 100 premier games.

He will also be involved in top-level games in the future as a TMO.
