Smith's Super Rugby season cut short

The Lions have been dealt a blow ahead of their final regular season Super Rugby game against the Bulls with the news that loose forward Kwagga Smith is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the competition.

Smith suffered a hamstring injury in the loss to the Hurricanes at Ellis Park last Saturday.

The Lions confirmed the news via a press statement stating that Smith underwent a scan on Monday which confirmed a Grade 2 hamstring injury and said that he is "unlikely to be available for the rest of Super Rugby".

Other squad news saw Harlequins-bound lock Stephan Lewies underwent a knee scan and visited a surgeon last week.

He will be unavailable for this weekend's match against the Bulls in Pretoria and will be reassessed next week.

Finally, prop Sti Sithole injured his right hamstring in training last week and is expected to be fully recovered by next week only.

A win for the Lions would see them secure a place in the playoffs.
