Steven Luatua and Jeremy Thrush have been handed the biggest starts of their young Test careers when the All Blacks take on South Africa in a critical Rugby Championship Test in Wellington on Saturday.
Thrush will make his first Test start against the Springboks in his seventh Test and replaces the injured Sam Whitelock.
Luatua, who was dropped from the All Blacks in June, comes in at blindside flanker for the injured Liam Messam with coach Steve Hansen resisting the urge to play dual openside flankers against the big Springboks' pack.
