Ulster 20-21 Scarlets
Scarlets clinched a narrow and important victory over Ulster this afternoon. It was a thrilling encounter right from the whistle, and took only three minutes for Scarlets to secure their first try through Michael Collins. Despite stunning plays of individual brilliance from Craig Gilroy and Luke Marshall, the boot of Aled Thomas was enough to wedge the gap between the teams. Credit to Scarlets’ defence as they soaked up constant waves of Ulster attack in the second half.
Aviva Premiership
London Irish 15-22 Exeter Chiefs
London Irish’s miserable season continued this afternoon as they picked up their 9th defeat of the competition at the hands of Exeter Chiefs. Despite taking an early lead through a Treviranus try, Irish were unable to hold on, conceding 13 unanswered points. A notable performance from Chiefs’ fly-half Gareth Steenson as he picked up 17 points out of the 22 with the boot. Exeter now sit in second in the Aviva Premiership with a game in hand over leaders Saracens.
Newcastle Falcons 26-25 Northampton Saints
Despite a late scare at Kingston Park, home side Newcastle Falcons will be relieved to escape with the 1-point victory over Northampton saints. The victory was fully deserved too, as the hosts dominated large parts of the game owing to poor Northampton defence, discipline, and handling errors. Momentum began to shift in the latter stages of the game, largely due to replacement out-half JJ Hanrahan. But it was too little too late from the visitors as they failed to make up the points gap.
