Super Rugby Injury Update

Bulls

Bulls and Springbok lock Lood de Jager will miss the Bulls next Super Rugby match against the Cheetahs on Saturday, having picked up a concussion against the Stormers.

Stormers

Damian de Allende has been ruled out for 12 weeks with an ankle injury. 

The midfielder joins the likes of Scarra Ntubeni (achilles), Leolin Zas (leg) and Juan de Jongh (knee) on the DHL Stormers injury list.


Lions 

Lions centre Howard Mnisi has been ruled out for the rest of the Lions Super Rugby season, following his injury that he picked up the opening round of Super Rugby against the Cheetahs.


The Lions medical team confirmed the injury as a ”multiple ligament injury of the knee including the ACL, LCL and PCL.”

Mnisi will require surgery and will be out for 9 months.

Highlanders 

Ben Smith is ruled out for the next two-weeks at least with a concussion, he will miss the matches against the Blues and Crusaders.

Cheetahs

Sergeal Petersen will have further scans taken today to confirm the extent of his injury that forced him off the field against the Lions.  It is likely that Petersen will spend a few weeks on the sidelines. 

Cheetahs captain Francois Venter is still struggling with a ankle injury and it is unclear when he will be will be able to return.

Crusaders 

Richie Mo'unga received surgery on Sunday for his fractured bone in his left hand. 

He is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks to recover and return to action.

Scott Robertson is optimistic about flanker Matt Todd, who was withdraw just before the game to treat his infected leg, will be available to face the Highlanders.

Seta Tamanivalu is in doubt as he suffered from a hamstring strain in the second half.

Digby Ioane  is still recovering from the blow to the hip from pre-season

Utility back Tim Bateman suffered a fracture to a bone in his back, during pre-season is still unavaliable.

Southern Kings

Irne Herbst sustained a concussion in the Kings opener against the Jaguares he is set to return to action next week
