The best half-back partnerships at the moment
- 2034
Phipps and Foley
After enjoying a successful year with the Waratahs last season, Phipps and Foley are now the Wallabies first choice half-backs. The two players go way back, where they both started their careers with the Australian 7’s. They now play alongside eachother at both club and country and will look to keep Genia and Cooper out of the starting XV when the World Cup begins in September.
Webb and Biggar
Another half-back partnership that also starts for both club and country. At first it was Biggar selected for Wales playing alongside Mike Phillips, but after some outstanding performances from Webb for the Ospreys he earned a starting spot for Wales playing alongside his Ospreys team mate Biggar. The partnership has been very successful in the Pro12 and we are beginning to see the success of it for Wales with both players performing well in this years Six Nations.
Perenara and Barrett
Perenara and Barrett have enjoyed a great start to the season with the Hurricanes who have won their opening three games. With Perenara and Barrett, you have two dangerous players who always have an eye for a try. At the moment they are both on the bench for the All Blacks but if they continue to enjoy a good season with the Hurricanes, Steve Hansen may give them a chance in the starting XV.
Murray and Sexton
Unlike the other three, Murray and Sexton do not play for the same club, but they are on fire at the moment for Ireland. With Ireland adopting a kicking game at the moment both Murray and Sexton are showcasing their talents from the boot with great effect. The partnership between Murray and Sexton is probably Ireland’s biggest weapon and if either of them were to get injured it would be a massive blow to Ireland’s success. Ireland will go into next years World Cup as dark horses but will need Murray and Sexton fit if they are going to have any chance of securing the Webb Ellis trophy.
