The Exiles see off Falcons fight back

FT London Irish 31 - Newcastle Falcons 22

London Irish were impressive to take full points against Newcastle Falcons, despite a fightback from the away side.

 

After a cagey opening 10 minutes, Newcastle had the chance to open the scoring but Hodgson missed a relatively easy kick. 

London Irish became to create more opportunities. They won a penalty and kicked to the corner and Creevy opened the scoring in typical fashion as London Irish went over with a rolling maul. Jackson added the extras. 


Newcastle continued to have most of the possession and territory, but London Irish were impressive in defense. 

London Irish grew in confidence and doubled their score when Stokes went over in the corner. Jackson added the extras. 


Newcastle had to be the next team to score and they did, when Stevenson went over from close range.

Hodgson missed the conversion but did manage to add a penalty right on half time. 

The second half got off to a terrible start for Newcastle as a yellow card to Penny cost them dearly. 

Paddy Jackson added a penalty before Curtis Rona scored a converted try to open a 16 point lead. 

London Irish looked to have the game wrapped up, but a crazy final 1o minutes from Newcastle saw them score two converted tries in 6 minutes. 

Sam Stuart and Gary Graham went over to not only potentially give them a losing bonus point but also gave them a chance to steal the game late on. 

Irish kicked off and won the turnover, before winning a penalty. They kicked to the corner before Motu Matu'u wrapped up the bonus point and secure the victory for London Irish.
