Three Uncapped Players Start For Wales, Another Debut On The Bench

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has named three uncapped players in his starting line up to face Georgia with a further potential debut via the bench.

James Botham earns his first test cap in the #6 jersey alongside Justin Tipuric while Aaron Wainwright returns to the starting line up replacing Taulupe Faletau in the no.8 jersey.

Kieran Hardy gets his first test cap in the starting line up while Callum Sheedy starts for the first time at flyhalf. He is joined by Johnny Williams who also earns a test debut at inside centre with Nick Tompkins outside of him.

Johnny McNicholl takes a place in the #14 jersey with Louis Rees-Zammit starting for the first time on the other wing with Liam Williams shifting to fullback with Leigh Halfpenny missing out entirely.

Wyn Jones, Elliot Dee and Samson Lee make up the front row with Jake Ball and Seb Davies in the second row. Sam Parry, Nicky Smith and Leon Brown provide cover for them on the bench along with Cory Hill and James Davies.

Rhys Webb makes his return from injury via the bench with Ioan Llyod in line for a test debut in the #22 jersey with Jonah Holmes completing the side.

“Saturday is a huge opportunity for the players and for us as a squad looking ahead to the future and to RWC 2023,” said Wales head coach Wayne Pivac.

“As we have said all along, the Autumn Nations Cup is a great platform for us to give opportunities to players, to build depth and experience.

“It’s a great honour for the new caps and the players making their first starts, they have trained well and deserve this opportunity to represent their country.”
