Toulouse target Wallabies playmaker

Toulouse have set their sights on signing Wallabies' playmaker James O'Connor as injury cover.

The 54 test cap utility back started at flyhalf for the Wallabies' final test of the year as Australia drew 16 all to Argentina on Saturday.

According to French newspaper Midi Olympique, O'Connor could make his return to France with immediate effect if Toulouse manage to convince the star to join the club.

O'Connor played for Toulon between 2014 and 2017 before making the switch to the Premiership, signing for Sale Sharks. He returned to Australia in 2018 in a bid to make the Wallabies Rugby World Cup squad.

According to the report by Midi Olympique, O'Connor has been contacted to cover for talented centre/wing Lucas Tauzin who is sidelined for the next four months.

O'Connor reportedly has a clause in his contract with the Reds and Rugby Australia which would allow him to join the French club for the remainder of the season.

If he were to join the club, O'Connor would provide Toulouse with a ton of cover in the centres, at flyhalf and even as an outside back with the club set to lose a large portion of their squad to the French national side during the Six Nations next year.
