USA name 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup
The USA has officially announced the 31-player squad for Rugby World Cup Japan 2019.
Head Coach Gary Gold has named 18 forwards and 13 backs with 10 players having previously competed in a Rugby World Cup (RWC).
Three will look ahead to their third World Cup event including Captain Blaine Scully, Eric Fry and Thretton Palamo. Scully and Fry both competed in 2011 and 2015 while Palamo competed in 2007 as the youngest player in history to appear in a RWC event and 2015.
Mark Robinson appointed New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive
Former All Black, New Zealand Rugby director, World Rugby Councillor and businessman Mark Robinson has been appointed the new Chief Executive of New Zealand Rugby.
Robinson, 45, officially takes up his new role in early January 2020, taking over from outgoing CE Steve Tew, who announced in June, that he was standing down.
Scotland Update: Bradbury to travel to Japan
Scotland back-row Magnus Bradbury will travel to Japan tomorrow (Monday) as precautionary injury cover for teammate Jamie Ritchie.
Ritchie sustained a facial injury in the national team’s 36-9 win over Georgia at Murrayfield on Friday and – following specialist scans at Spire Murrayfield Hospital – will remain in Scotland for specialist assessment, with the outcome influencing whether he remains part of the 31-man group for the Rugby World Cup which begins later this month.
Cheetahs hold on for sixth Currie Cup
The Cheetahs raced away from the Lions and then held on for an ultimately nervy 31-28 Currie Cup triumph in Bloemfontein, earning their sixth title.
The two sides had finished level on points in the round-robin section of the competition but there was far more between them in Saturday's final.
