What games have been impacted by the Coronavirus

A number of rugby matches around the world have already been impacted by the spread of the coronavirus.  The virus has claimed over 3,825 lives around the world and it is believed that there are more than 110,000 confirmed cases  in over 100 countries and territories. 

Below we have added the matches and tournaments due to or have already been impacted by the spread of the virus. This will be updated once more information is known.

World Sevens Series

Singapore Sevens - Confirmed - Rescheduled for 10-11 October 

Hong Kong - Confirmed - Rescheduled for 16-18 October 


Japanese Top League 

All Round 7 matches - Confirmed - Rescheduled for 21-22 March


All Round 8 matches - Confirmed - Rescheduled for 2-3 May

All Round 9 matches (unrelated to Corona) - To be rescheduled

Super Rugby

Hurricanes v Sunwolves - Going ahead

Sunwolves v Brumbies - Relocated to WIN Stadium in Wollongong

Sunwolves v Crusaders- Under Review - Relocated to Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane

  

PRO14

The PRO14 season has been suspended indefinitely.

Matches involving Italian sides had already been postponed, but now the whole league programme has been put on hold. Full article

TOP 14 & PRO D2

The LNR has confirmed a temporary suspension of all Top 14 and Pro D2 games, with collective training organized by professional clubs also suspended.

A new date for all matches affected will be set and communicated in due time, the union has confirmed.

 

GK IPA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Championship match between Nottingham and Jersey Reds, due to take place on Saturday 14 March, has also been postponed.  

This is as a result of two Jersey Reds’ players being asked to self-isolate by Jersey Health Authority due to close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.  

A statement from GK IPA Championship has confirmed that discussions on rescheduling the game will take place in due course and an update provided when possible.

Scottish Rugby Suspends All Rugby in Scotland

Scottish Rugby has also taken the decision to suspend all rugby in Scotland following the evolving Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation. 

The union has decided that with effect from Sunday 15 March at 6pm there will be a short period without domestic competition (or training) whilst a further assessment can be made. This will be in effect up to, and including, 29 March 2020.

The Scottish Rugby Age-Grade Programme (male and female) will also be cancelled with immediate effect for the remainder of the season. This includes all training sessions that were planned for the age-grade teams as well as all other age-grade internationals for the rest of the season. 

U20s

An international series featuring the national Under-20 teams of Georgia and Argentina as well as the Junior Boks, set to take place in South Africa in April, has been cancelled as well as a planned tour by the team to the United Kingdom in May.

 

Furthermore, the forthcoming RWC Trophy Visits, which had been planned for the next couple of weeks across South Africa, has also been put on hold.
