What position earns the most in the Premiership

Premiership Rugby has released its fourth Salary Cap Report - which covers the 2023-24 season. As a collective, Premiership Rugby and its clubs led the way in England when they introduced a salary cap in 1999.

We took a indepth look at the Average Senior Player Income by Position

The graph below shows the average Player Income by Position, comparing 2023-24 with 2022-23. The graph shows the mean, with the median in brackets. The highest paid position is again Fly-Half, with an average income of £231,182 increasing from £220,847 in 2022-23. The highest paid Forward is Back Row, with an average income of £160,908, up from £159,467 in 2022-23. The lowest paid Forward is Hooker, as was the case in 2022-23, with an average income of £133,232, but is up from £128,556 in 2022-23. The lowest paid Back is still Scrum-Half with £119,614, slightly down from £121,104 in 2022-23.
