A match remembered as being a close-affair as Scotland almost upset the World Champion All Blacks. The clash was always going to be a momentous occasion but the emotion was ratcheted up further before kick off as former Scotland lock Doddie Weir and his three sons brought out the match ball before kick-off, Murrayfield rising as one to greet the former Lion, who has motor neurone disease.
A closely fought game throughout with New Zealand leading by five points with just two minutes left to play, it was Hogg who broke away down the far side of the pitch and, as he raced for the corner, New Zealand’s Beauden Barrett came across with a late try-saving tackle to deny the Hawick man a historic try.
