Uruguay threw the cat amounts the pigeons in Pool D as they beat Fiji 30-27 in a historic game at the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium. 

Los Teros two previous RWC wins come against Spain in 1999 and Georgia in 2003, but today's win over two-time quarter-finalists will be monumental for Uruguayan rugby. 

 





Fiji outscored the Uruguayans five tries to three, but they only managed to convert one of their five conversions. Felipe Berchesi was the game’s top scorer with 15 points, and he also picked up 300 Test points in the game.

This result has all but killed any chance of Fiji making the quarter-finals at this year's tournament. The Pacific Nation will have Georgia and Wales in their next two games, which is likely to seem them only win one of them. The South American’s got their Japan moment and boy this will do wonders for the sport in the country. The played with passion, discipline and resilience for a full 80 minutes. 

 



 

Losers: Josh Matavesi and Ben Volavola

 

Both fly halves had games to forget this morning, combined they missed five out of six kicks. Matavesi kicked one out of three attempts while Volavola finished on zero out of two.
