Witty predicted to shine at JWC
Young Newcastle Falcons forward Will Witty has been backed to make an impression with the England U20s at the Junior World Championship.
The second row will win his first cap for the age-group side on Tuesday when the tournament kicks off in Italy.
Witty caught the eye playing off the bench for Newcastle towards the end of the Premiership campaign, with the 6ft 5 forward receiving plenty of praise from the Newcastle academy boss Mark Layock.
“He has made a couple of bench appearances for the Falcons’ first team in the closing weeks of the Premiership season, and he is just a good, hard grafter,” Layock told ChronicleLive.
“He has developed a lot, he is a very strong scrummager and his line-out work has come on plenty. He is consistent with his tackling and breakdown work, and you always know you are going to get a good shift out of him.
“Adding the extra little bits to his game is the next stage, but he has made a great start and done well to get in the squad for England Under-20s.”
