Darren Coleman

Coleman was born in Kempsey, New South Wales, and was head coach of the Gordon RFC team in Sydney’s Shute Shield competition.

He played rugby with the Kempsey Cannonballs team before attending Southern Cross University and playing with the University Gold Rats. He then joined Eastern Suburbs as fly-half in 1995 before playing with the Newcastle Wildfires in 1996-97, and then Northern Suburbs from 1998-2000.

Toward the end of his playing career, he also began coaching. While at Northern Suburbs, he was the head coach of the NSW Waratahs Academy in 1998 and a skills coach to the Waratahs for the 2000 Super 12 season. Then he left for Italy in 2001 and coached Benevento before leaving for Canada to coach the Calgary Saints and Calgary Mavericks.

He returned to Australia to coach the Penrith Emus in the Shute Shield in 2005 and then Northern Suburbs in 2006-07. He was also an assistant coach of the Central Coast Rays in the Australian Rugby Championship in 2007. During the 2007-08 season, he coached the professional Italian club L’Aquila.

In 2009 he was named head coach of the Brumbies Academy. He left for Japan in 2011 to coach Toyota Industries Shuttlesand helped the team to gain promotion to the Top League for the 2013–14 season.

Darren returned to Australia in 2014 and served as the coaching director of Eastern Suburbs from 2014 to 2016. He also was appointed head coach of NSW Country Eagles in 2014, and head coach of Shute Shield club Warringah in 2017. Since 2018 he was the head coach of Gordon and joined the LA Giltinis team ahead of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.

In July 2021, he was announced as Waratahs' new Head Coach on a three-year deal.
