Matthews was educated at Watchetts Junior School and Kings International College, and began playing at home town club Camberley in 1997 aged only three.

She burst onto the international rugby scene in 2011 and was among the youngest squad members to lift the World Cup trophy in 2014, having come off the bench to play in the last 15 minutes of the final.

Matthews whose sister Francesca plays for England Sevens, will head into the 2017 Women's World Cup with 31 international caps under her name.
