After coming through the ranks at the Sharks Academy Jerome "Trompie" Pretorius made his Currie Cup debut during the 2010 Currie Cup competition.
In 2012 he move to Pretoria where he represented the Bulls and Tuks in the Vodacom Cup and Varsity Cup.
Later in 2012 he signed for the Pumas.
