5 Talking Points from the Lions team announced

Andy Farrell has announced his first match day 23 as the British and Irish Lions prepare to face Argentina on Friday night. Here are five talking points.

  1. Bundee Aki and Sione Tuipulotu Midfield:

This midfield is very exciting and carries a lot of punch. Having them link up with their outside backs in vd Merwe, Freeman and Smith poses a deadly attacking threat. Many see Tuipulotu better suited at 12 and his last outing at 13 against Leinster was nothing to write home about.

  2. Tadhg Beirne and Maro Itoje Locks:

Many see this as the starting pair for the tests against the Wallabies next month. The two get through a mountain of work on both sides of the ball and provide plenty of experience to the side. Everyone will keep a keen eye on their performance.

  3. Loose Trio:

Farrell has gone for an interesting selection in the loose trio and one that is extremely mobile and will be deadly on front foot ball. The height and lack of line out options there could pose a problem.
  4. Tadhg Furlong Returns:

Furlong has been struck by some long times out of availability for Leinster and Ireland due to injuries and his return is a welcome one and provides a vital live game viewing of his current fitness. There is no doubt that the team is much stronger with a fit Furlong.

  5. Henry Pollock on debut:

Pollock has had an unforgettable season with plenty of milestones but running out and making his debut for the Lions this weekend will be up there.
