England v Ireland: Match Stats

 Ireland racked up their highest-ever points tally at Allianz Stadium with a stunning 42-21 victory over England.

The game was very much one-sided and stats prove it too.

Ireland spent 74 minutes in the lead which is 90% of the game and even though England had more possession (52%) they lost 22 turnovers and Ireland only lost 12. Ireland was dominant at the breakdown winning 11 turnovers while England only won 2.

England’s scrum was better than Ireland’s with a 100% scrum win rate meaning they won all 5 their scrums. Still with set-plays Ireland had 10 lineouts with a 90%-win rate while England had 16 but with an 88%-win rate.

England carried the ball more with 149 carries compared to Irelands 119, but they failed to utilise all the possession.  Ireland made 289 Post Contact Metres, while England only made 260m.

They were some impressive individual performances too with Ben Earl making the most carries at 20 followed by Stuart McCloskey with 15. Robert Baloucoune & Tommy Freeman both made 3-line breaks, Winger Baloucoune also won 3 turnovers, beat 4 defenders, scored a try and assisted one also. He also made 4 dominant tackles, an impressive game for the 28-year-old.  

Caelan Doris was a defensive machine making 20 tackles, with Tadhg Beirne making 18. Doris also carried the ball 11 times and beat 3 defenders.

Player of the match Jamison Gibson-Park steered the ship for Ireland making 63 passes, beat 1 defender, made 1 offload, scored 1 try and assisted another. He also made 13 kicks from hand.
