Carr commits to Quins

Harlequins are delighted to announce the renewal of powerful young back rower Zach Carr.

Carr (21) has signed his first senior contract with the Club, further strengthening the pathway from the Academy to the First Team.

The former Dulwich College student and Battersea Ironsides junior, stepped up from the Under-18s and into the Senior Academy ahead of the 2022/23 season.

In his first Senior Academy season, the all-action forward made his First Team debut against London Irish at The Stoop in the PREM Rugby Cup, before scoring his first senior try the following week against Saracens. Following that season, Carr also gained international recognition representing England at Under-20 level.

Fast forward to the current campaign, Carr reached another major milestone after making his Gallagher PREM debut from the bench against Bath and has since featured regularly throughout the first block of the season – he’s registered 16 senior appearances to date.

“I’m really proud to re-sign with Quins. This place has been home from day one when I joined at 15 years old, and the last year has been huge for my growth as a player and as a person,” said Carr.

“I’ve gone through some difficult times away from rugby, and the Club has backed me through every high and low.

“The support from the coaches and players has meant more than they probably realise. I’m incredibly grateful - and I can’t wait to keep improving, keep contributing, and give everything for this Club…even if it means a few more headaches for the coaches.”

Senior Coach, Jason Gilmore said: “Zach’s been the biggest improver in the squad over the last 12 months. He’s worked really hard, keeps getting better, and now gives us another explosive ball-carrying option alongside Chandler Cunningham-South.

“It’s great to see another homegrown player making his mark at senior level, and we’re excited to see how he keeps developing.”
