Anthony Alphonse Alves, born on June 23, 1989, is a rugby union player renowned for his prowess as a prop. Although he was born and raised in France, Alves proudly represents Portugal on the international rugby stage.

Alves's rugby journey began in the picturesque town of Bourg-en-Bresse, where he moved with his family at the age of two. He displayed a natural aptitude for the sport and commenced his rugby journey at the tender age of five with SA Bourg-en-Bresse. His passion for the game continued to grow, leading him to Union Sportive Bressane, where he honed his skills until the 2008/09 season.

In 2009, Alves ventured to US Montauban, marking his entry into the senior ranks of rugby. He made his debut for the main team during the following season in the fiercely competitive Fédérale 1 league. His rugby journey took him through several French clubs, including RC Chalon (2012/13-2013/14), Montluçon Rugby (2014/15), and Stade Aurillacois Cantal Auvergne (2015/16-2018/19), where he tasted the rigors of Pro D2 rugby for the first time.

Alves's rugby odyssey continued with stints at FC Grenoble (2019/20-2020/21) before finding his current home at Stade Montois, where he has been representing the club since the 2021/22 season. His consistent presence in the French Pro D2 since 2015/16 reflects his enduring commitment to the sport.

On the international front, Anthony Alves has been a stalwart for Portugal's national team since he was 18 years old. With 23 caps to his name, he made his debut against the United States on November 13, 2010, at the age of 21. Despite occasional absences, Alves's dedication to the Portuguese national team has been unwavering, and he returned as a regular player in 2021.

As Portugal prepares for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Anthony Alphonse Alves has been named in the squad, where he aims to make a significant impact with his skills and experience, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable prop on the global rugby stage.
