Jean-Pierre Smith, a talented rugby player, embarked on his career in South Africa, initially representing Western Province. Between 2009 and 2010, Smith was a member of their esteemed youth system, where he honed his skills and showcased his potential. During the 2010 Vodacom Cup season, he made five appearances, leaving a mark on the provincial rugby scene.

At the end of 2010, Smith, along with his twin brother Ruan, made the decision to emigrate to Australia. Settling in Brisbane, they both joined the Australian National Academy, immersing themselves in the Australian rugby system. Jean-Pierre, in particular, became involved in various development sides, showcasing his abilities and dedication to the sport. In 2013, he made his way south to join the Brumbies, a prestigious rugby team in Australia.

Smith's talent and hard work earned him a place in the Brumbies' extended playing squad for the Super Rugby 2014 season. On 7 March 2014, he made his Super Rugby debut, making a notable impact as a second-half replacement for Scott Sio in the Brumbies' victory over the Hurricanes in Wellington.

In July 2015, Smith made a decision to return to his former side, Western Province, to compete in the 2015 Currie Cup Premier Division campaign. It was a significant move for him, as he sought to continue his rugby journey in South Africa.

Following his successful stint in South Africa, Smith once again set his sights on Australia. In 2018, he signed a contract with the Reds, a respected Super Rugby team. His Queensland debut came in Round 2 against the Rebels in Melbourne, where he demonstrated his skills and contribution to the team. Smith also made his Queensland NRC (National Rugby Championship) debut for McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City.

In 2019, Smith's career took a slight setback due to an ongoing knee injury. Despite the setback, he started at loosehead prop in 10 out of his 13 matches, displaying resilience and determination. Post-season surgery was required to address the knee injury and unleash his full potential once recovered.

In October 2021, Smith embarked on a new chapter in his career, signing a two-year deal with the Lions. The Lions, a prominent team in South Africa, welcomed his experience, skill set, and versatility. It marked a fresh opportunity for Smith to contribute to the team's success and make a lasting impact in the rugby landscape.

Jean-Pierre Smith's journey is characterized by his commitment, adaptability, and relentless pursuit of excellence in rugby. With his experience in both South Africa and Australia, he brings a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge to the game.
