Is Bismarck back?

Is Bismarck back?

The decorated Springbok hooker has barely hung up his boots but it now, apparently, in talks with the Bulls, according to a piece in the Rapport.

Du Plessis enjoyed a magnificent career which saw him taste World Cup glory with the Springboks in 2007 as well as doing great service for the Durban-based Sharks for most of his career.

Now 37 years of age, du Plessis returned to his farm in the Free State to begin a new chapter, but it seems that the previous chapter may not yet be complete.

According to the Rapport, Bulls boss Jake White – who coached du Plessis at both the Springboks and Montpellier, is keen to lure the hooker back into the big arena.

In a recent interview with SA Rugby Mag, du Plessis alluded to the notion that there might still be some juice left in his legs.

“I’ve been blessed to go through my career with relatively few injuries and to play for so many great teams for a long period. My fitness regime and my diet have played a role in that,” he said.

“I’ve been very strict with my body and when I’ve played I’ve tried to maintain a high physical standard. You can’t back down just because you’re a bit older. In a sense, I’m grateful I was pushed so hard in my early days at Free State and the Sharks. I have tried to keep pushing the limits over the course of my career.”

“I’m not sure what’s in the future for me as a player.”
