Maitland and Jonny Gray miss out on selection for French clash

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has left out winger Sean Maitland and second-row Jonny Gray for Scotland’s postponed Round 3 clash with France on Friday.

Because the fixture falls outside the scheduled test window, Townsend may select on five Scottish representatives from the Premiership and, with Stuart Hogg, Sam Skinner, Scott Steele, Alex Craig and Chris Harris already picked, there is no room left for Maitland.

Jonny Gray has not yet recovered from his shoulder injury, rendering him unavailable as well.

On a more positive note, Finn Russell and Adam Hastings are back after concussion and a ban respectively.

The Scots will expect a fiery encounter at Stade de France as Les Bleus still have a chance of snatching the 2021 Six Nations title from Wales.

Scotland squad:

Forwards: Simon Berghan, David Cherry, Alex Craig, Matt Fagerson, Zander Fagerson, Grant Gilchrist, Nick Haining, Rob Harley, Oli Kebble, WP Nel, Jamie Ritchie, Sam Skinner, Grant Stewart, Rory Sutherland, George Turner, Hamish Watson.

Backs: Jamie Dobie, Darcy Graham, Chris Harris, Adam Hastings, Stuart Hogg (captain), Sam Johnson, Huw Jones, Rufus McLean, Duhan van der Merwe, Ali Price, Finn Russell, Scott Steele, Jaco van der Walt.
