Report: Blues in talks to sign Los Pumas youngster

The Blues are reportedly looking to strengthen their midfield depth for the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season and have looked to secure the signature of Pumas midfielder Santiago Chocobares.

The Blues named a 37-man squad this week for the 2021 season with the likes of TJ Faiane, Rieko Ioane and Tanielu Tele’a named as centres but the Auckland based side do have one spot left on the roster for the 2021 season.

According to the New Zealand Herald reports the Blues are looking abroad to fill that gap, targeting promising Pumas star Chocobares. In 2020, the Blues brought in England centre Joe Marchant to complete their squad and now look set to add another overseas-based player for 2021.

21-year-old Chocobares made his test debut in Argentina's historic victory over the All Blacks last month and add to his cap tally against the Wallabies.  The Herald have also reported that Chocobares has previously been involved in the Auckland Rugby Union academy.

New Zealand Rugby do have to sign off on any foreign players with just three players who have played test rugby outside of New Zealand permitted per team. The Blues currently filling up two with Samoans James Lay and Ray Nuia.
