Pienaar came through the academy at Leicester Tigers, making his first-team debut in 2007/08. He made 30 appearances for the Tigers, including starting their 2009 Heineken Cup quarter-final victory over Bath, and captained Leicester to A League success in 2009/10.
Pienaar then joined the Exiles in 2013 and helped the club to Championship success in his debut season, as well as playing a leading role in Welsh's British and Irish Cup success in 2015/16.
In August 2016, he was named captain of the London Welsh club ahead of the 2016/17 season.
