Leck took up rugby at the tender age of four at local club, Calderdale RFC, in Burnley, before moving into secondary school rugby Rossall School and linked club, Preston Grasshoppers, which formed part of the early development stages of the Sale Sharks Academy. t was during this time that Leck was selected for the Yorkshire district side (which he represented into senior rugby) as well as the England under-16 and under-18 representative sides before signing a full-time Academy contract with Sale aged 18.
