Claire was born in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim and currently lives in Bushmills.

Claire is a medical student in Queens University and balances her studies with training and playing with Ireland.

She plays as a centre and is highly regarded in Ulster for her threat with ball in hand.

Playing her club rugby with Cooke and her provincial rugby with Ulster. She has won 7 caps to date and was named in Ireland squad for the 2019 6 Nations championship.

Ahead of the 2020 Women's Six Nations, McLaughlin has been named again for the Ireland squad. She has currently had 11 appearances.
