Darren Sweetnam

5th May 1993 1.83m/95kg Right Wing

A graduate of the Munster Rugby Academy, Sweetnam joined the provincial set-up at the start of the 2012/13 season after impressing for Munster U20s in the Interprovincial series.

He began his rugby career with Dunmanway RFC, before making the move to senior club side UCC for season 2012/13.

He has also played for a Munster 7’s side at the Limerick World Club 7s Festival in Thomond Park, August 2014.

2015/16 saw Sweetnam join the Munster senior ranks, signing a new two-year contract, moving to development status for 2015/16 and a full contract for 2016/17.

Sweetnam was called up to the extended Ireland squad for the upcoming November Internationals.

Sweetnam was awarded with the Munster Young Player of the Year for the 2016/17 season.

An excellent 2016/17 season has truly put himself on the PRO12 and European stage.

A man-of-the-match performance against Zebre at the beginning of the season was a sign of the flair to come from Sweetnam.

Sweetnam featured in 19 of Munster 24 Pro 12 matches last season scoring 5 tries.

He continued to perform at the start of the 2017/18 season scoring 2 tries in 7 of Munster's 8 games of the 2017/18 season and was named as one of 4 uncapped players in Ireland's squad for the November tests against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, Sweetnam has had 10 Champions Cup appearances scoring 1 try and 5 points.

In December 2018, he signed a new deal with Munster Rugby, committing to the province until at least June 2021.
