Mikesell, who graduated from Southeast Polk High School, played football, wrestling and ran track.
His performance on the field and the mat earned him attention from schools like the University of Michigan, the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and even a 90-percent scholarship to Wayne State College in Nebraska.
