Devin Toner

29th Jun 1986 2.08m/124kg No 4 Lock

At close to 7 foot tall, Devin Toner is one of the tallest players in Europe. Due to his size, Toner may be pigeon holed as a limited player, used only for lineouts, but this description doesn’t do the Meath man justice as he is a good ball carrier and defender as well as a competent line out jumper.

He made his Leinster debut in 2005 and has amassed over 150 caps since. He was part of Leinster’s three Heineken Cup winning campaigns in 2009, 2011, and 2012, added a European Challenge Cup winners medal in 2013. A Pro12 winner in 2013 & 2014 having been a finalist 2011 & 2012.

After impressive Leinster form, he made his international debut against Samoa in November 2010. Toner began to nail down a place in the Irish team in the 2013 season, forming a dynamic partnership with Paul O'Connell in Ireland second row.

Having starred in Ireland's triumphant Six Nations campaign in 2015, Toner was selected in Ireland's 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup. Played 4 games at 2015 RWC making three starts including the quarter-final defeat to the Pumas.

Toner won his 40th Ireland cap in the historic victory against New Zealand in Chicago. The 30 year old lock will be hoping to continue his form into the remaining Autumn Internationals and 6 Nations in order to win a seat on the plane to New Zealand next summer with the British and Irish Lions. Now in his sixth year as an international, Toner has grown to become one of the most consistent locks in world rugby and firmly established within the team.

In December 2016, Toner signed a 3-year deal to remain at Leinster until at least June 2020. Meath native Toner won his 50th European cap in the 2016/17 campaign.

The Leinster stalwart has won 60 Ireland caps.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, Toner has had 67 European appearances.

Ahead of the 2019 Six Nations, Toner has 63 test caps.
