Bucharest-born Ionita played for Steaua Bucharest since the beginning of his rugby career. He has two bronze medals obtained in the 2006 and 2007 seasons in the national championship and a national title, in 2009, at junior level. At senior level he won the Romanian Cup in 2009. In 2012, Ionita made his debut for the Bucharest Wolves and went on to debut for the Oaks in 2013. In 2015 he was selected to represent Romania at his first World Cup.
