Representing the South African U21s in 2001, Britz started his provincial career with Cheetahs in the 2002 Vodacom Cup but would have to wait until 2004 to make his Currie Cup debut for the Bulls (2004-2005). The lock forward then moved to Griquas for the 2006 and 2007 seasons before heading to Rovigo in 2008. 2009 saw Johannes signing with Mont-de-Marsan where he currently plies his trade.
