After representing his school side Maritzburg College Janse van Rensburg attended the University of Pretoria, where he played rugby UP Tuks in the Varsity Cup between 2011 and 2014.
He was also included in the Blue Bulls squad for the 2012 Currie Cup Premier Division competition but failed to make any appearances for the Blue Bulls.
In 2015, Janse van Rensburg moved to Kimberley to join Griquas.
He made his first-class debut in their match against SWD Eagles in George.
He made four appearances off the bench for Griquas in the 2015 Currie Cup qualification tournament.
He has since re-signed with the club.
