Juan Manuel Tafernaberry was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay
In June 2021, he played for Uruguay u20s in the Four Nations tournament in South Africa. This included him featuring prominently in the win over Georgia.
After a strong U20 tournament, he was recruited by Stade Français Academy.
In November 2021, he was named on Uruguay’s roster for the tour to Europe. He was a replacement for Los Teros against Italy ‘A.’
Tafernaberry then signed for Súper Liga Americana de Rugby side Peñarol ahead of the 2022 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby season
