Playing as either a centre or a wing, Mitchell appeared in 31 of a possible 32 games for the Rebels in their first two seasons. The composed back joined the Rebels from English Premiership side London Wasps, where he had been since 2008. Prior to that, Mitchell spent time with the Waratahs Academy following impressive performances for Sydney University in the Shute Shield. His tenacious work ethic and stellar return from the UK prompted RaboDirect Rebels Head Coach Damien Hill to re-sign the versatile back again in 2012.
