Neil was educated at Campbell College where he captained them to Northern Bank Schools' Cup success in 2002. After studying at the University of Dundee he returned to play club rugby for Belfast Harleqions, where his impressive form earned him a development contract with Ulster Rugby. He continued to impress and he was upgraded onto a professional contract for the 2010/11 season as he became a regular member of the match day squads. Standing at 6' 7", Neil's considerable height makes him a superb operator in the lineout, but he compliments that with great work rate around the pitch.
