3 players that could have forced their way into the Lions 23

The Lions this morning put one of the performances of the tour in as they defeated the Chiefs 34-6 in Hamilton.

We take a look at 3 players who may have given themselves a shout in being included in the 1st test 23.

1. Jack Nowell

There was a lot of pressure on Jack Nowell coming into this game. With a poor performance against the Blues and Rieko Ioane, plus a quiet game in the defeat against the Highlanders, it was important Nowell had a positive game today. From the start Nowell looked dangerous and sniped over early in the 1st half for a score which relieved so much pressure. His score in the 2nd half was a real highlight, finishing of a great 90 metre team try and showing that instinctive attacking threat that we know he is capable of. Making 57 metres and beating 6 defenders, there's a chance we could see him sneak into the 23 with the threat he brings.

2. Courtney Lawes

Like Nowell, Lawes had featured twice for the Lions and both of those apperances ending in defeat. However the English lock has put in some good shifts and was unlucky to come off with a head injury in the loss to the Highlanders. Today Lawes played an integral role in a dominant Lions performance, with his physicality in defence superb. With Alun-Wyn Jones only featuring for 5 minutes today it does seem as he will feature on the bench for the Lions on the weekend, but Lawes did his case no harm with today's outing.

3. Dan Biggar

Due to the recent injury of Owen Farrell, Biggar has seen his game time jump by more than expected. Biggar's tour has been average but today he put in a fantastic shift. His kicking off the tee was good, he controlled the game well at outhalf today and looked to always play on the front foot. If there are any doubts over Farrell's fitness, Lions boss Warren Gatland should have no issues in putting his trust in Biggar.
