Eddie Jones' "captain's challenge" comment leaves many scratching their heads

In the wake of England’s hard-fought victory over France at Twickenham, some of head coach Eddie Jones’ comments have left many confused.

‘We had a captain’s challenge! A new thing in rugby. We weren’t told about that law,’ Jones told ITV Sport after the match.

Many fans took to social media to express their confusion and surprise.

While the captain’s challenge law does exist, it does not, as yet, pertain to any of the northern hemisphere competitions and is currently being trialled in New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aotearoa competition and works as follows:

A captain may challenge any decision made during the last five minutes of a game, an infringement during the lead-up to a try or foul play.

It is not clear exactly what Jones was referring to with his comment.
