England Rugby World Cup squad: Stuart Lancaster defends snubbing France-based players
Stuart Lancaster was not for persuading at Twickenham on Wednesday as he revealed his 50-man training squad for the Rugby World Cup.
The England head coach was adamant that he would “hold the line” over Steffon Armitage’s exclusion, albeit acknowledging the short-term view that such selections might offer in theory “a better chance of being successful”.
Expediency has been shunned, principle upheld.
The man is not for turning.
If England prove to be as staunch and steadfast when the tournament gets under way at Twickenham on Sept 18, then they will be in good order.
