Kate Williams to captain the Wales Women's team for the Six Nations 2026

The Welsh Rugby Union can confirm that winger Kate Williams will captain the Wales team for the 2026 Six Nations campaign.
Williams, who was born in Swansea, was appointed co-captain of Wales with Alex Callender for the two-match Test series against Australia and subsequently at the 2025 World Cup in England.
Neither Callender nor the full-back, Nel Metcalfe could be considered for the Championship as a result of injuries.
Williams, who won her first cap for Wales against Ireland in 2023, will lead her country against Scotland on the first weekend of the competition - on Saturday, 11 April (4.40pm) at the Principality Stadium.
Callender, who plays in the back row, has suffered an ankle injury, while Metcalfe has injured her knee.
Alex Callender, now 25, led Wales to their first ever win on Australian soil during the summer, while Metcalfe crossed for two tries in the 21-12 win in Brisbane.
Metcalfe, who is 21 years old, scored three tries in one game for her club at the beginning of February, and she has now established herself as one of the main members of the Welsh national squad.
Head Coach of Wales, Sean Lynn, said: “Kate Williams has the respect of the whole squad, and her leadership skills mean she will captain Wales for our Six Nations campaign this year.
"The news about the injuries is very disappointing for the whole squad, but more than anything it is extremely frustrating for Nel and for Al Cal themselves - especially on the eve of the Che Gwlad like this. Both will receive the best medical care to help them return to the field of play.
"Al Cal has been a special leader for the squad, and Nel has been among the best players in Wales and her club in the English Premier League as well.
"This unfortunate situation means that there is an opportunity for other players to step forward and claim a place in the Wales squad for the Women's Six Nations Championship. A large number of women have caught my eye and raised their hand recently in the English Premier League and in the Celtic Challenge as well."
Callender (ankle/ankle) and Metcalfe (knee) will be sidelined for around 12 weeks as a result of their injuries.
