Kotaro Matsushima seals a move back to Japan

Japan outside back Kotaro Matsushima has signed a deal return to Japan next season.

The 29-year-old has spent the past two years in France with Clermont but returns to Suntory Sungoliath ahead of the 2023 season.

During his time in Clermont, he made 38 appearances in the Top 14 scoring six tries in the competition.

He also made seven Champions Cup appearances scoring five tries including a hattrick against the Bristol Bears in December 2020.

"I am very happy to be able to return to the familiar Tokyo Sungoliath. When I transferred to Clermont, I accepted my desire to take on the challenge overseas and sent it out. This challenge was with the understanding of Sungoliath and was essential to my step up. I would like to play well next season and return! Of course, I will make the most of my experience with the aim of winning the championship." Matsushima said on returning to Suntory.

Suntory reached the final of the 2022 Japan Rugby League One last season only to lose 12-18 against Panasonic Wild Knights.
